Woodworking & Kids
Hey, my goal for this page is simple. A collection of simple to make projects and ideas, that you and your kids or grand kids can build together. I was surprised recently when my granddaughter asked me to let her make something in my woodworking shop.
She wanted to make a bird house, and me being a serious woodworker, started thinking about how to cut the wood, how to shape the edges. ………, as we talked about it, I could see her interest waning. She wanted a simple project, not a family heirloom. We ended up at the local craft store and got a bird house kit. She had a great time, and actually listened when I explained what we needed to do. It was a great time, so what I am suggesting, is forget about all the fancy tools we have for a while, and spend some time with the kids in the shop. Maybe you can spark that interest, so they can end up hooked as much as we are on woodworking. Here are a couple of ideas to get things started. I’ll be adding more as we go.
1. Clock making
Let your kids decorate this Quartz Clock Kit how ever they like. Attach the movement, place the numbers on the face and instant clock. Quick gratification for the liitle ones is very important. They don’t want to spend hours on a project.

2. Project Book
This nicely illustrated how-to goes beyond wood, glue, and nails to explain woodworking techniques and a variety of tools.
If your kids are a little more advanced, this might be a great book to share with them.
