Ok guys, I normally make it a habit to never talk about things more then once. But this time I really have to make an exception. The Fed Ex guy delivered my Bench Cookies from Rockler. And these things are fantastic.
Who would have thought that something as simple as four round pieces of hard rubber that are covered in a non slip material would make such a great woodworking tool? I certainly didn’t. These Bench Cookies are the perfect choice for everything from sanding, routing or finishing any piece of wood. By placing one of the cookies in each corner, your wood is held secure enough that I was able to apply an ogee edge to a piece of oak using my 3 HP router, without any other tools to secure the stock.
My old method, and probably yours too is to clamp the stock to your work surface, with a couple of bar clamps. Most times this gave you access to two sides of your stock, and if you were really lucky maybe part of the third side. So you would work the accessible sides, stop the router, reposition the clamps to give access to the rest of the stock and then complete the work. And sometimes this was a three step process. What a waste of time. Now I just drop the cookies on the work surface, place the wood over them and start working the entire surface.
The new top of my table saw extension table is slippery by design. So I was concerned what would happen when I used the Bench Cookies on it. Truth is it didn’t matter what surface I used them on, they held on each and every one I tried. I even tried to trip them up by applying some sawdust to the work surface first. Made no difference. These things held securely.
So I only have one question left. What are you waiting for? While you are here on the computer, why not order a set or maybe two sets for your shop. Just click on the image or the highlighted links above to be taken to Rockler’s site to order your set. I promise you won’t be disappointed.

I’m waiting for Christmas. This is an easy gift for my wife to get me without having to discern the technical specs of a more complex tool.
Man, DONT wait till Christmas these things are really great. Maybe you could convince her to give you an early gift.
