Sometimes, you find something that you look at and say, “Why didn’t I think of that?”
The latest Rockler catalog arrived today, and I found one of those items in there. It’s nothing fancy. Just one of those things you really should add to your toolbox. One of first things we learned as woodworkers is that the best way to check if a box is square is to simply measure across the diagonal. If the box is square, then the two measurements will be the same. If not, tweak the box until they are.
I have a couple of problems with that concept. One, you need to be in the exact same spot, in the opposing corners for the measurement to be correct, and two, what do you if you are alone and cannot reach all the way across the diagonal? I think this little gadget might just help with both of those problems.

As the saying goes, “one picture is worth………”, this actual makes sense. The Square attaches to your tape measure with a Rare earth magnet. You can use any tape up to 1 ½” wide.
