I was reading over some of the articles that I have written, over the past year and I noticed that there are some common themes that keep appearing with some regularity. Mainly, that I really like the Arts and Craft designed furniture and I also love the mortise and tenon joint that the Arts and Craft movement helped to make more popular. One thing I couldn’t find was any in depth discussion on cutting the mortise and tenon joint. So here goes, this is my way of cutting the mortise and tenon joint.
When we rebuilt our kitchen, I used a combination of mechanical fasteners like the Kreg pocket screws for the face frames of all of the cabinets. They are fast to cut and even easier to assemble, but the open pocket is not the most visually appealing joint in the world. Surely not something I wanted on the doors of my cabinets. So I choose to use the traditional Mortise and Tenon joints for the doors……
